Rush Drayton (b. 1998) — portrait: Holly Blanshard
Rush Drayton is a sculptor and mechanical design engineer whose practice explores the intersection of art, engineering, and ecology. Working across sculpture, robotics, and material experimentation, he develops works that investigate the shifting relationship between humans, technology, and the natural world.
Drayton holds a dual Master’s in Innovation Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London, where his work combined scientific research with speculative design to challenge conventional ways of thinking about more-than-human systems and environmental futures.
In 2025, he worked in the Berlin studio of Julius von Bismarck, contributing to a major Kunst am Bau commission for Frankfurt Airport. He now works as a Mechanical Engineer at RIVAN, designing hardware for synthetic methane production systems that generate carbon-neutral fuel from water, air, and renewable electricity.
Based between London and Sydney, Drayton continues to develop an interdisciplinary practice that brings together contemporary sculpture, engineering, and emerging technologies to explore new forms of coexistence between human and non-human worlds.
